Tim Burton has done it again! Another amazing film that can make even small, every day situations give you the chills.
As well as being super creepy, this movie has an intriguing plot that keeps the audience cheering for the peculiar children from the first minute. And Samuel L Jackson does a great job portraying a mad-scientist. I wonder if he ever considered a career change? Perfect casting is what really brought the characters to life, and I love seeing unfamiliar faces play bigger roles. It helps give the character a life of its own, instead of dragging an actor’s previous roles into it.

If you’ve ever struggled with feeling normal, as most teenagers have, after an adventure with Jake and Miss Peregrine’s peculiar kids you’ll be thankful for boring days sitting in traffic and doing homework.
Just a tiny complaint: the plot was predictable. But that’s not always bad. In fact, if this film had been any more surprising I’d probably have nightmares for months instead of just a few days. (We’re on day 2 now…)
And as usual when I see a film, I laugh at all the wrong places. Example: when the kids arrive at the pier in a rusty boat, right next to a sign that says pier closed, I instantly imagined the police (or whoever watches over the piers) scratching their head as they wrote a ticket for a rusted, broken, supposed-to-be-sunk ship…I was the only one with this thought.
Long story short, this movie is worth the $9.75 to be creeped out and thrilled at the same time. And since I’m a big chicken when it comes to scary movies, that’s a hard combination to come by.

Karianne is the founder of Windmill Ways. She plays the cello professionally and currently works as an Art Director for a charity. Because she loves animated shows and movies, she studies 3D animation and graduated with a BFA with the unfortunate class of 2020. Her dream vacation would be just staying home, but "home" being a glamorous cabin somewhere in the mountains surrounded by forest.
